Valparaiso University Solar Project
%20(1).webp)
The Scenario
In 2020, Emergent Solar Energy partnered with Valparaiso University to install a 78 kW DC bifacial PV array on a white-membrane flat roof, offsetting an estimated 60% of the building’s load. The system uses portrait-mounted, 15°-tilt bifacial monocrystalline modules on a TerraGen TGR rail-based racking solution raised 15 inches above the roof to maximize albedo gains and backside energy capture. Leveraging federal ITC incentives, MACRS depreciation, and a low-maintenance elevated design, the project is projected to produce 55,000 kWh annually—equivalent to removing 8 cars from the road or powering 5 Indiana homes—and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 39 metric tons each year.
